BM PvP Tip (Spirit Beast Insight)

[:1]I've dusted off the old hunter and have been doing a lot of experimenting in battlegrounds / duels the past few weeks to find some new pvp strategies that work.

A tip to my fellow BM hunters out there, get TWO spirit beasts. The camping sucks, it's tedious, but in the end it is very worth it.

The heals from spirit beasts stack, although it appears that directly stacking them results in diminishing returns. The most effective way of using this is to pop spirit mend, dismiss pet and call another spirit beast. When the first heal is over, pop the second heal.

If you're quick, you can call a new spirit beast during a scatter shot, deterrence, or certainly when you trap your target. If you get a trap off, you can double pet heal, and get most of a bandage off (more than completely healing you).

When that mage iceblocks and your spirit mend is on cd, don't sit there sucking your thumb with low health, dismiss and call a new spirit beast and double up the heals.

This is incredibly effective, and I encourage others to play around with it. You can alternate cooldowns on spirit mend if you have 2 spirit beasts, and never get killed by a healer 1v1 again. Makes many fights with dps classes infinitely easier as well.

This is totally getting nerfed somehow if every hunter starts doing it. I'd try it myself, but I don't feel like camping for another spirit beast. I only got Skoll by luck while questing.

Why would they nerf something that is already a joke?

wait wait..

We are hunters, 24 hour emergency hotfix go!

This will be loads of fun when we're able to get a fifth spirit beast.
Good trick! Another thing I like to do in a similar fashion is before the start of an arena match buff with roar of courage at around 10 seconds before match starts then switch to my core hound.

Now that's what I'm talking about!
I doesn't have diminishing returns it just takes a few seconds for your pet to update its stats when you summon it, so if you cast Spirit Mend immediately after calling it, it will heal for alot less.

Ahh, yes indeed you are right. Thanks for the tip!

For anyone unfamiliar with macro's or using pet abilities, here is a simple one push macro that will use your pets heal ability without having to manually target yourself.

#showtooltip Spirit Mend(Exotic Ability)
/target Bigfat (Your Name)
/cast Spirit Mend(Exotic Ability)
/targetlasttarget
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

The same style macro can be used for Roar of Sacrifice or Intervene as well. Happy Hunting.

A simpler way to use that macro without losing your current target at all would be this:

#showtooltip Spirit Mend
/cast [target=player] Spirit Mend

Also worth noting is that Spirit Mend will heal for more if used during Bestial Wrath.

Oooh.. SM during BW (waitasec... that letter combo doesn't seem right for some reason...) for an improved effect is a good hint to keep in mind.
I'm surprised similar pet abilities like this aren't on the same cooldown with each other

BW increases damage done, not AP. Spirit Mend scales from AP. BW by itself won't have any effect on Spirit Mend. Most people hotkey CotW with BW, though; that's probably what you're seeing.
That's probably it, my mistake. In any case you should always be using CotW and any burst trinkets you have during BW anyways :P
